Philosophical
Statement of Purpose resulting from
a 2003 Strategic Planning Conference
and the report by consultants representing
more one educational institution...
The Jazz Directors Big FAT Band is
comprised of jazz directors from schools participating in the Frank
Mantooth Jazz Festival.
The title "Fat" has nothing to do
with the girth of any individual member or the collective girth
of the ensemble. It is so named to avoid any confusion between our band and
Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band,
a group with whom we are so often and rightly confused. Unlike our finely tuned
(once before each gig) band, Gordon's band also
rehearses now and then, which is another major difference between our two
ensembles. To actually rehearse would deny us our most viable
excuse.
As
did Gordon Goodwin's PHAT Band, this year's Directors FAT
Band will perform at the 2008 Midwest
International Band Clinic in the Grand Ballroom at 3:30 p.m.
as a demonstration group for a clinic being presented by James
Warrick.
