JAZZ
IMPROVISATION PROGRAM
The
Jazz Improvisation Program (Combos) at New Trier is an academic credit-granting series
of combos that are ability-based, with each class meeting one
time a week after school for one hour. The improv. program is overseen by the Director of Jazz Ensembles, who also teaches several of the improv classes. The goal of the improv. program at all levels is to musically empower every student by providing jazz improv concepts in an appropriate sequence, while also providing ample opportunity to experiment with these concepts.
The
2009-2010 school year will provide five classes: 1 section of Beginning
Improv. (Northfield Campus); 2 sections of Intermediate Improv.(Winnetka Campus); and 2 advanced
combos (built into the regular Jazz 1 rehearsal schedule).
