BRET SPAINHOUR
Bret Spainhour is a freelance
saxophonist, composer, and educator currently living in Chicago,
Illinois. Before relocating in Chicago,
Bret was a jazz instructor for more than 15 years at
universities throughout the Midwest
and Great Plains. In addition, he was invited to be the
woodwind instructor and combo coach at the International
Summer Jazz Academy in Kraków,
Poland, in the summers of 2003 and 2004. Currently,
he is serving as a jazz combo coach at New Trier High School
in Winnetka,
Illinois.
Bret has performed with many of the biggest names in popular
entertainment including Bob Hope, Bernadette Peters, Olivia
Newton-John, Manhattan
Transfer, and the Four Tops. He has also been featured
alongside such jazz luminaries as Clark Terry, Slide
Hampton, Terence Blanchard, Maynard Ferguson, and Bill
Watrous. In addition, he is a prolific composer and arranger
whose writing has been featured at numerous venues of
national prominence including Macy's Thanksgiving Day
Parade, the Orange Bowl, and the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts.
In addition, Bret has recently introduced JazzByTheFoot
Publications, a web-based publishing company that features
his compositions for jazz ensemble and combo. As of this
writing, high schools and universities in 28 states have
performed charts purchased through JBTF Publications. It can
